The Hebrew Month of
ELUL
The Jewish Calendar
What is Elul?
The Hebrew month of Elul is an auspicious time for getting closer to God. Elul is the month that precedes the Jewish Days of Awe - it kicks off the 40 days that lead up to the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur...
So how does one tap into this special month and find favor in G-d's eyes?
Perhaps the key is found in 4 WORDS that appear in the Talmud,
Source: Tractate Brachot 17A
"Beloved Above and Desirable Below"
״אהוב למעלה ונחמד למטה״
"Ahuv Lemalah Venehmad Lemata"
if you want to become beloved above, in the eyes of G-d... (Ahuv Lemala) Then you have to be desirable down here. Be Kind, generous and gracious to others. (Nehmad Lemata)
And it's no surprise that the acronym of those 4 words spelled in Hebrew come out to:
ELUL
אלול
אהוב למעלה ונחמד למטה
Ahuv Lemala Vnechmad Lemataa
because that is the secret to finding favor in G-d's eyes.
